Under-Nines -- The girls were back to league business on Sunday morning at Harmony Row. Girls playing were Erin O'Brien, Heilidh McIntyre, Ellie Dunn and Kate Smith plus -- making their debuts, and playing brilliantly -- Leah Coulter and Amyleigh Ramsay. Taylor Coulter also helped out in defence.
The team did did very well on their first day back and were up against Palace Park, two Glasgow City sides and Patrick Thistle. They hit the ground running against Palace Park. Erin got on the scoresheet with a brace. The girls got into their groove and played some nice passing. Ellie did well in defence saving some goal-bound shots.
Against Glasgow City (Whites), the girls started strongly with Leah setting up Heilidh who slotted in the goal. Goals also came from Erin, who worked her socks off all over the park getting her hat-trick. Kate also got on the scoresheet. Working hard in defence were Taylor, Ellie and Amyleigh.
The goal-scoring form continued against Glasgow City Blues with Erin getting four goals and Kate and Leah getting a brace each. Ellie was unlucky not to score. All the girls worked hard for each other.
The last match, against Patrick Thistle, was perhaps the toughest of the day against. They were the most physical team. The girls had lots of chances but for a long time couldn't find the net. Erin finally broke the defence down and quickly added another. Again the girls finished strongly. Heilidh took a sore one to her foot and hobbled off in the last game.
Juniors only conceded two goals all day. Goal-scorers -- Erin O'Brien (11), Kate Smith (3), Leah Coulter (2), Haleigh McIntyre
Juniors are looking for girls to add to the Under-Nines section. Any girls aged seven and over who would like to have fun playing football can go along to the shared campus on Mondays at 6pm.
The Under-Nines are also looking for a sponsor -- anyone interested should contact Mags on 07908 206 262.
Under-11s -- The team started their season with three games at Harmony Row. They took a little time to settle, with the first game ending goal-less. It was a bit scrappy with the girls missing lots of opportunities in front of goal but doing well creating these chances. Erin Stuart pulled off a great save from a cracking goal-bound shot to keep it level. For a couple of girls this was their first league game at seven-a-side and they did well.
The second game was much the same but the girls maintained pressure and took the lead, an own goal, which turned out to be the only scoring. The final game saw the Juniors at last benefit from some awesome passing. There were great tackles coming in from the team as a whole as the girls showed some hard work and the pressure finally paid off, Juniors winning comfortably.
The girls did well in all games -- Erin Stuart was in goal, with not a lot to do at times; Taylor Coulter was in defence then midfield; Aimee Murray and Roma were also in midfield, controlling games; and Julie Brade moved into a striking role.
The team thank Belhaven Dentist for sponsorship
