INVERCLYDE Women’s Aid hope a new ‘police room’ at their Greenock base will help victims of domestic and sexual abuse to come forward.
The space in their High Street premises means officers can take statements from victims out with a family home or police office.
Inverclyde Women’s Aid said: “This has been really well received by officers in Inverclyde. We believe it is a good step forward in supporting victims to come forward and be well supported throughout the process.
“We look forward to working in partnership with Police Scotland in providing this important resource to the women of Inverclyde.”
Renfrewshire and Inverclyde police division stated: “In collaboration with Inverclyde Women’s Aid, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde public protection unit have been seeking opportunities to support survivors of domestic and sexual abuse through the investigative process.
“This has led to funding being secured to renovate a room within Inverclyde Women’s Aid building, where statements can be taken by police in a supportive and safe environment whilst having the opportunity to utilise the services of Women’s Aid.
“Police Scotland are dedicated to ensuring victims are provided the opportunity to report crimes and are supported by police and partner agencies throughout the investigation.
“Police Scotland are committed to improving our services for victims of gender-based violence and we encourage anyone who has been a victim of domestic or sexual abuse to report it to Police Scotland or through one of our partner agencies. We will take action and we will investigate.”
