PLANNING officials are recommending that approval is given for a housing development in the Leven Road area of Greenock.
Planning permission is being sought by Clydeway Contracts for eight houses and a block of nine flats on an area of open ground, with rough vegetation, on the hillside to the east of 60 Renton Road.
Councillors on Inverclyde’s planning board are due to consider the application on Wednesday.

Council officers are urging approval, on condition that a legal agreement is reached ensuring that six of the flats be solely for social landlord amenity use.
Their report states: “The site does not offer great quality or value as public open space due to its overgrown nature and topography and the proposal would afford opportunities for use by local residents, through the provision of improvements to areas within the site which are to remain as open space.”
A design statement included with the planning application explained: “The intent is to continue the streetscape along this vacant gap site on Renton Road, with modern newbuild houses of a traditional style which meet the character of the surrounding area while prioritizing appropriate design and density.”
The houses would each have three bedrooms. The three-storey flat block would have a mixture of one, two and three bedroom apartments, with balconies.
