VOTING has started for all nine categories in the Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards for 2019.

Online voting is available at www.inverclydesportspersonality.com and, from later this week, voting can also be done in person in the chicane area of the Oak Mall Shopping Centre in Greenock.

One of the organisers, Chris Jewell, said: “We have been surprised at how quickly people have started voting for their Inverclyde stars, particularly in the Young Sports Personality of the Year category.

“Voting closes on 9 March at 6pm and it looks already that we might be heading for a record number of votes.

“The five with the biggest number of votes in each category are regarded as finalists and will go forward to a panel and their voting position in their category will count towards the winners being chosen so it is important to get as many votes as their supporters can.”

The winners of each category will be announced at a gala dinner in the Greenock Town Hall on Friday 27 March. Each finalist will receive one free ticket to the dinner, be it an individual, group or club, and further tickets are now available from Smiths Sports in West Blackhall Street in Greenock (01475 888555).

Tickets, which include a drink on arrival, a three-course dinner plus tea and coffee and the chance to see all the awards being presented, cost £35 each.

Recent sponsors of the awards include West College Scotland, Inverclyde Council, Inverclyde Leisure, Ogilvie Homes, Specsavers, ICE Scotland, Amazon and sportscotland.
