Claire and Heather both completed their 50th parkruns, having started in January 2017 as a New Year fitness resolution. Both have since done the Glasgow Women’s 10k and are considering half marathon events.

Meanwhile Lynsey completed her 100th parkrun. She starting parkrun three years ago and became a regular participant at Greenock. She was particularly pleased to get back to running after time out through injury.

Among the assembled parkrunners on Saturday were 11 first-timers to Greenock — including John MacMillan who has completed 385 parkruns across the UK, many in the south of England.

Despite hot conditions, 13 athletes manged to improve their times. David Tamburini (16:31), John Hammerman (16:35) and Chris Barlas (16:36) all helped spur each other on to finish together in a group.

Junior runner Ben Campbell managed to slash his time to 20:41 – his third personal best (PB) in as many runs at Greenock.

Also improving their times were Iain Beattie, Paul Evitt, Lauren Reid, Sibylle Dow, David Caitens, Nuala Ward, Michael McEldowney and Annmarie McKeegans.

Greenock parkrun welcomed two world marathon record-holders to this week’s event. Alan and Emma Blair completed the 2013 London Marathon in various fancy-dress costumes and hold the world record for the fastest times in each category. Alan ran the 2013 marathon dressed as an internal organ/human heart while Emma was dressed as a nurse.
