Inverclyde Now Logo THIRTEEN Improve Their Times At Greenock Parkrun Despite Headwind

25 June, 2018 | Local

FOR the 10th consecutive week, Greenock parkrun achieved 100-plus attendance.

The good summer weather continued, however this week runners had to contend with an unwelcome headwind over the five-kilometre Esplanade course.

There were 18 people taking part at Greenock for the first time — including two parkrun regulars from Inverness. Young Aidan MacAskill, who runs regularly at Linwood, was on his first visit to Greenock and finished his 10th parkrun.

First finisher Alan Callan had another reason to celebrate as he was completing his 50th parkrun. Alan started his parkrun journey in July 2014 and has completed all 50 of his runs on the Greenock course.

The windy conditions did not deter 13 runners who lowered their times to achieve personal bests (PB). Frenchman Lucas Bezian, achieved his third PB in as many weeks to bring his time to 21:43.

Bruce Coyle proved that good things come to those who wait by earning his first PB in two years to reach 23:34. Lynne Harrison ran a PB of 23:37 on her 31st run at Greenock. David Caitens achieved his fourth PB in as many runs to reach 28:57. Meanwhile Kelly Wilson made it a hat-trick of consecutive PBs to reach 24:02.

Also reducing their times were David Williamson, Joe Percival, Gordon McInnes, Stephen Hotchkiss, Linda Ross, Stacey Gatens, Dean Black and Annmarie McKeegans.

Among the runners were 11 members of the Inverclyde Just Jog group who have built up to running five kilometres over the past 10 weeks. They started off with 30 seconds of jogging and 30 seconds of walking and have built up their fitness over recent months. Greenock parkrun congratulates them on completing their fitness programme and hopes to see them back on the Esplanade next weekend.
