Inverclyde Now Logo TENNIS — Players Urged To Enter Greenock And District Championships

THE 70th Greenock and District Tennis adult championships take place over the fortnight from Monday 16 July to Saturday 28 July.

The finals will be held at Ardgowan Tennis Club in Greenock on the evening of Friday 27 July and during the day on Saturday 28 July.

There will also be under-12s, under-16s and under-18 boys’ and girls’ singles competitions.

The clubs involved are Ardgowan and Fort Matilda in Greenock, and the clubs in Bishopton, Kilmacolm and Largs.

Players with a normal Inverclyde residential address who may be members of other clubs can also enter.

The championships are again sponsored by Inverclyde Leisure.

Tournament organising chairman Chris Jewell said: “Tennis is really on the up in Inverclyde with plans for three indoor courts and the work the Judy Murray Foundation is carrying out here to build an army of coaches to deliver Level one tennis sessions given the expected demand for tennis coaching as we go forward.

“We also have Stephanie Norris as head coach and development officer covering both Greenock clubs who is helping to increase membership levels and coaching opportunities and we are greatly looking forward to another very successful championships.

“We encourage all players from all the clubs involved to enter as many of the competitions as they can.”

The championships include men’s and ladies’ singles and doubles plus mixed doubles, veterans’ singles and veterans’ men’s and mixed doubles as well as the junior events.

Entry forms are available from the clubs involved or can be obtained by email from Chris Jewell at cbjjewell@gmail.com. Forms need to be submitted and received for the adult competitions by Thursday 5 July with draws announced on Thursday 12 July.
