Inverclyde Now Logo SWIMMERS And Coaches Honoured At Inverclyde ASC Annual Presentation Event

SWIMMERS, parents, coaches and invited guests gathered for Inverclyde Amateur Swimming Club’s annual presentation night.

The evening began with a look back on the year by club president Jennifer Garrity. It was a chance to relive some of the highlights such as the mini league final, the British championships and the many new West District records achieved.

Inverclyde Provost Martin Brennan gave an entertaining and touching speech paying tribute to the many volunteers who keep the club going.

All swimmers were presented with a certificate of achievement, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-place age group winners from the club championships were presented with their trophies. There were also 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards for the open championships.

The coaches had four additional awards to present. Best Newcomer, which is open to all swimmers who have joined in the last year, went to Joshua Marrone, who has made a great impression in his short time with the club.

The Land Award -– which recognises the best athlete in land-based strength and endurance training -– was then shared between Katherine Simpson and Lukas Kong.

Junior Swimmer of the Year went to Finlay Morrice, who has shown himself to be an exciting prospect for the future. Senior Swimmer of the Year went once again to Matthew Garrity, with a touching tribute about the hard work and sacrifice that goes into his many records and championship wins.

It wasn’t just the coaches who got to choose award winners — the swimmers themselves are given the opportunity to vote for their own junior and senior swimmers of the year.

Swimmers often have a completely different perspective but this year they were in agreement with the coaches. Finlay took the Swimmers’ Junior Swimmer of the Year to go with his Coaches’ award. Matthew was voted Senior Swimmer by his teammates, but shared the award with deserving club captain Molly Cannon.

Volunteer of the Year was shared between Clare Beck, Elaine Cannon and Jennifer Garrity. Coach of the Year –- also voted for by the swimmers -– was awarded to Kyara Finlay for the fourth year running.

After all the awards, it was time to get the party started as kids and adults alike danced the night away to top tunes from DJ Euan Purdie.
