A FREE tennis event for local children and families is being held by the Judy Murray Foundation at Inverkip Community Hub this weekend.

It takes place at the facility at Kip Park, Main Street on Sunday (6 October) and will give youngsters an opportunity to try out tennis in a fun, playful way.

There will be sessions for four to seven-year-olds from 11:30 to 12:45 and for eight to 10-year-olds from 2 to 3.15pm Bookings can be made by emailing kevin@inverkiphub.org.uk.

The foundation hopes to recruit parents and young people to provide weekly tennis activity for children at Inverkip.

It has been working across Inverclyde over the last 10 months providing free grass-roots tennis activity to local families, young people and aspiring coaches. The aim is to make tennis accessible for everyone by working alongside local groups, clubs and schools

Melodie Crumlin, chief executive of the Judy Murray Foundation said: “We are very excited to be partnering with Inverkip Hub and their fantastic team to ensure local families have the chance of experiencing tennis. Aside from the fact that tennis is a wonderful sport, families will build friendships and connect with others in their communities but, more importantly, they have fun.

“I am also glad to say that following this event we will be recruiting local parents and young people to train them up to deliver fun starter tennis so that this becomes a regular feature at the hub.”

Bill Stewart, a trustee for Inverkip Community Hub, said: “The Inverkip Hub is delighted to be working in partnership with the Judy Murray Foundation to bring opportunities for local families to experience and enjoy tennis together. We look forward to welcoming parents and children to the hub on Sunday and hopefully on a regular basis thereafter.”

The Inverkip event has been made possible thanks to financial support from local housing associations and the John Mathers Trust.
