THE search has started for the Inverclyde sportspeople who have excelled this year.

There are nine categories in the 2018 Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards — Senior Sports Personality, Junior Sports Personality, Disabled Sports Personality, Coach, Club, Team, School Team, Young Volunteer (up to age 25) and Adult Volunteer.

The awards are organised by West College Scotland, Inverclyde Council through Active Schools, Inverclyde Leisure, New Horizons Marketing, and sportscotland with help from 8digital.

Anyone, whether a club, official or individual can nominate in any and all of the categories online on the awards website www.inverclydesportspersonality.com. Nomination forms will also be available in all Inverclyde Leisure facilities.

Nominations should relate to successes during the 2018 calendar year and need to be in by Monday 14 January 2019. Winners will be announced at the awards dinner in Greenock Town Hall on Friday 8 March.

Coverage of the 2017 awards

On behalf of the organisers, Chris Jewell said: “Last year’s awards produced an increase in the number of nominations and another huge number of votes with some very worthy winners.

“It all promises to be another great year for local sportspeople and a very successful awards event.” Proceeds from the awards will go towards providing grants to aspiring Inverclyde sportspeople to help them reach regional, national and international events.
