Inverclyde Now Logo GREENOCK Parkrunners Endure Torrential Rain, Strong Winds And Driving Hail

AFTER two weeks of Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, Greenock parkrun was looking forward to a respite but the Scottish weather had other ideas and produced some of the worst conditions the event has seen.

This dramatically reduced the turnout to just 56 brave souls, the runners experiencing the full force of the typical ‘four seasons in one hour’ Greenock morning with sunshine, clouds, torrential rain, a fierce wind and, worst of all, painful driving hail.

Not surprisingly, finishing times were also similarly affected with most people some distance from their personal bests over the five-kilometre Esplanade course, but there was at least one bright spot with Gary McEwan achieving the only PB this time around, in 26th position and with an amazing time of 25:29 on his third parkrun.

First male runner home was Neil Lafferty with a time of 17:22 and first female was Kirsty Ormond in 13th position overall, in 22:09.

Greenock parkrun is especially grateful to the volunteers, pictured below, who made the event possible with several people travelling some distance to help. That parkrun could to take place at all was quite something given surrounding road closures.
