A FIFTH of the returning runners at Greenock parkrun improved their times over the five-kilometre Esplanade course.

Of the 110-strong field, 22 runners achieved personal bests (PBs). There were eight first-timers.

Young Harry Vance was on good form and managed to reduce his time by 35 seconds to 20 minutes 30 seconds.

Meanwhile nine other junior runners were rewarded with PBs — Evan Speirs, Marc McBride, Marzella Luca, Rebecca Ross, Zoe O’Donnell, Lewis Scott, Hannah Ritchie, Euan Livingstone and Charlotte Taggart.

Parkrun uses age grading to compare athletes of different ages and genders.  Liz Corbett, above — who runs in the 70 to 74 age category -– came within one per cent of setting a new Greenock record when she achieved an age grade percentage of 88.76.
