Runners creating ‘200’

THERE was a record turnout to celebrate the 200th parkrun event on Greenock’s Esplanade.

Despite the biting cold wind, 195 athletes completed the five-kilometre course, an increase of 40 on the previous high set back on New Year’s day in 2017.

Nine runners provided pacing, for various times between 19 and 30 minutes.

There were plenty of milestones being celebrated with four athletes completing their 50th parkruns — Erin McEleny, Chris Mooney, , Gordon Ritchie and Sandy Bulloch.

Twenty-five athletes managed to improve their best times, taking advantage of the pacers. They were Stephen Harrison, John McKee, Sean MacFarlane, Matthew Young, Lucas Bezian, David Sutherland, Trisha Ronney, Clare Monaghan, Pat McCarn, Nicola Stevenson, Callum Gorry, Clive Nelson, Kenneth MacKenzie, Erin McEleny, Niall Brennan, Andrew McIntyre, Ian McCarn, Lana Killeen, Joe Percival, Alexander Boonsanong, Elaine Medinelli, Fiona Benham, Sara Blandy, Debbie Gorry and Effie Donaldson.

Greenock parkrun started on 17 May 2014. Since then 2,266 participants have completed 15,235 parkruns covering a total distance of 76,175 km.
