WHINHILL’S own David Pearson was crowned Whinhill Golf Club’s Margaret Lever Seniors Open competition winner after returning an excellent nett score of 63.

The competition is open to any golfer, with an official handicap, over the age of 50. Fifty-eight competitors took to the field with the hope of being crowned champion.

All were treated to a course in good condition however conditions were very difficult. In what was a stark contrast to the previous day’s lovely weather, competitors were faced with high winds, lower temperatures and rain.

Despite the weather, there were some excellent scores returned, in particular by the three main prize winners. David edged out Eddie Cassidy and John Ellis by one shot with their consolation being securing victory in the Age Section B and Age Section C categories respectively. The winner of Age Section A category was the in-form David Adams who returned a nett score of 66.

The scratch prize went to Murdoch Carmichael of Greenock Golf Club, who showed that, despite now being eligible for senior competitions, he is more than capable of producing some great golf in his return of a score of 74. The best visitor’s prize was won by Joe Donnelly of Carrick Golf Club who had a great nett score of 66.

Congratulations go to David, who picked up the Margaret Lever Trophy and a bottle of whisky, kindly donated by Chivas Regal Brand Ambassador, Scott Lever, and to all who took part in the competition.

Whinhill Golf Club thank the Lever family for their continued support of the competition and also Chivas Regal for their kind donation.
