GOUROCK Golf Club hosted its annual Seniors’ Open competition.

A field of 95 took part with no fewer than 41 players visiting from neighbouring clubs.

The course was in good condition helped by the lengthy spell of dry and warm weather resulting in favourable run on the fairways and good green surfaces.

In the gross score competition, local players Bill Goodwin (79), Stuart Murray (78) and Jake MacPherson (76) set the early pace with impressive sub-80 rounds but no one could compete with the ever-steady play of David MacFarlane, right, from Greenock who, playing off a handicap of 1, posted a magnificent one-over par 74.

David’s round included four birdies at holes 2, 11,13 and 14 which resulted in him winning the gross score prize.

In the handicap section, despite the best efforts of Stuart Murray (78-9=69) and Jim McNee(89-19=80), nobody could compete with the fabulous form on the day of Gourock member Jake MacPherson. left.

Playing off 10, Jake had a perfectly-balanced card with two birdies in each half resulting in 38 strokes in each nine holes for a total of 76, less a handicap of 10, for a winning net score of 66.

The club congratulates Jake for returning such a tremendous score — all the hard work Jake puts in on honing his game all year round really paid off.

Gourock Golf Club thank Robscot Builders for their continued sponsorship of the open event.
