20 November, 2018 | Local

GOUROCK Golf Club held their annual gents’ prize-giving.

The night was chaired by club captain Ian Macnaughton with club professional Derek Watters acting as the master of ceremonies during the presentation of prizes.

After a very enjoyable meal served up by Ashleigh Buckley and her team, everybody was thoroughly entertained by guest speaker John McKelvie who regaled the audience with stories from his time as a police officer and football referee.

During the awards presentation, mention was made of a new over-80s trophy donated by ex-captain Bill Hawthorne; the seniors’ club championship sponsored by WH Kirkwood; the annual Roxburgh Trophy sponsored by Colin Grierson of Grierson Plumbing/Watterman and the introduction of a trophy contested during the winter in the club’s indoor golf studio.

The club thank Des Miller and Gordon Crae and the match and handicap sub-committee for organising all the competitions throughout the year and putting all the planning in place for the prize-giving.

In total 88 awards and trophies were presented culminating in Steven Higgins receiving the Darroch Medal as the 2018 Club Champion.

A special thanks is due to Logan Young who organised all the engraving and prizes.
