A STRONG field of 108 competed for the Gillen Open Trophy at Gourock Golf Club.

Joe Gillan set an early target in the net competition with a very impressive 80-14 = 66 with steady golf seeing him gross 40 in each half.

This would eventually see Joe pick up the 2nd net prize, with his golfing buddy Willie Wilkin eclipsing him to the net trophy with an excellent net 65 playing off a handicap of nine.

Willie shot an impressive 37 on each nine including three birdies to return a gross score of 74, just one over par.

In the gross competition, 2nd prize was shared between Alastair Mackenzie and Alastair Boffey, both of whom shot a four over par 77 with the latter finishing strongly with a two under par 35 for the back nine.

The ever-steady Steven Higgins , however, was able to better this with a gross 74 which included an eagle three at the 8th and three birdies during a strong back nine.
