Inverclyde Now Logo FOOTBALL — Update From Port Juniors Community Sports Club

14 March, 2018 | Local

2002s — Port Juniors entertained St Andrew’s (Red) in an important league fixture for both teams. It was the Juniors who raced out of the traps, quickly taking control with some neat passing football and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring with a cute finish from debut boy Luke Gatens.

However St Andrew’s fought back and equalized with an outstanding finish by Kyle Bradley. Juniors regrouped and forged ahead again with a great finish from Jack Brown. The same player made it 3-1 with an excellent strike direct from a free kick.

In the second half, the Juniors continued to press and increased their lead when Jack Brown completed his hat-trick with another fine finish. Brooklyn Webster netted but was correctly ruled out for offside to give a final score of Port Juniors 4 St Andrew’s 1.

There were great performances from all defenders, Jai Douglas in midfield and Luke Gatens, on his debut. Referee’s man of the match was Jack Brown.

Girls’ Section

The Under-13s played against a bigger, stronger Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers side, away in horrible weather conditions. They started well with plenty of possession and creating some chances, including six corners, but never really tested the Wishaw goalkeeper. The girls were unlucky to be down 2-0 at half-time.

In the second half, the girls attacked more but left the defence exposed allowing the opposition to increase their lead.

Final score: Wishaw 5-1 Port Juniors. Scorer: Roma Kelly Referee’s joint players of the match: Casey Leigh Findlay and Elle Dinning
