Inverclyde Now Logo FOOTBALL — Update From Port Glasgow Boys’ Club

12 April, 2017 | Sport

2009s — The 2009s, pictured, are playing on Sunday mornings in the Paisley, Johnstone and District Youth Football League. The boys play non-competitive football and are improving and learning as the weeks progress.

2008s — The team were minus Michael and Louis for their last fixture before the Easter break, against Renfrew Victoria.

The boys were hoping to build on their last five victories and started off pressing high up the field with Cameron and Kieran ready to swoop on any misplaced passes from the opponent’s defence.

This combination resulted in the opening goals — a pass by Kieran found its way to the bottom corner after Cam dummied the initial effort, and, not long after, Cameron was afforded a clear run on goal, his pace taking him away from the defender and he coolly slotted home a fine side foot finish to make it 2-0.

The half continued with fine passing and intricate play from the midfield. Kieran was able to grab his hat-trick as the half ended.

In the second half, Euan got a run outfield and, straight from kick-off, went about trying to grab a goal. Brilliant play from Ben and Oliver on the wings resulted in lots of chances. Euan and Oliver get their names on the scoresheet along with Sam, again providing strong running and tackling.

Max produced the moment of the game with a brilliant shot from 40 yards going straight into the net. Later on he added to his tally, beating Ben to a loose ball and making sure it crossed the line.

This was another fine team performance from the 2008s who should be very proud of their commitment and sportsmanship this season.

2004s (Orange) — The team is still on the look-out for players, including a goalkeeper, to help rebuild the squad for next season. Anyone born in 2004 with boys’ club experience should contact Terry Fuller on 07799,118675. Also this team is looking for coaches. Sponsored by Marcus Humphrey House
