2008s — The 2008s have been busy with matches against Bishopton (A) and Bridge of Weir Utd.

Against Bishopton at Parklea the team lined up missing just Leo who was on holiday. Kieran, who has been revelling in a more forward role lately, started the game well, winning and pressing every ball. Ben was in from the start and produced his normal trickery on the wing. He has come so close to scoring in the last few games and Sunday was his day. Cutting in from the left, he unleashed a brilliant right foot finish high into the net.

Again the team pressed well, Max winning everything at the back and releasing Michael down the right. After a fine save from the Bishopton keeper, Kieran tried his luck from long range and his brilliant shot found the bottom corner. Forwards Cameron and Sam have been working hard in training on their finishing and this paid off when Sam went on a strong run and unleashed an unstoppable right toe finish past the keeper

In the second half, both sides had lots of chances and Bishopton, who had scored late in the first half, pushed high up the pitch. Fine defending from Oliver and Louis saw Euan’s goal stay intact. This fine defensive team is developing each week, ably assisted by Max. The play went from end to end with good tackling and play from both sets of players. Late on Kieran went on a mazy run using his strength and pace to pull away from the tiring defence and neatly put away a fine composed finish to complete the scoring.

Against Bridge of Weir the lads had Max and Oliver policing the back line with Cameron working hard up top and Michael and Ben supporting Kieran in midfield. Sam broke the deadlock late into the first half with a fine finish quickly followed by Kieran slotting away a side foot shot.

After some changes to conserve energy, the second half was a tight affair with Bridge of Weir scoring with two fine right foot finishes low to Euan’s corner. The boys continued to work for openings and had Some brilliant chances with only poor finishing letting them down. Euan made some fine clearances and Louis was first to all the balls in defence. Sam carved out another chance after fine play from Ben and Logan and this last goal proved to be the winner.

2004s (Orange) Kilpatrick 4 Port Glasgow BC 0

The Port made the trip across the water to take on Kilpatrick minus their two main strikers. With a reshuffle of the squad, the Port pushed midfielder Callum Brown up front with new recruit Darren MacLeay.  The game was a pretty even affair with Kilpatrick having the better of the chances midway through the first half and they got the opening goal — Aaron Keyes parried a shot but the Kilpatrick player was on hand to hit home the rebound. The Port looked a bit shell-shocked and Kilpatrick grabbed a quick double to take a three-nil lead into the break.

The Port again shuffled the pack to try and get into the game with Brown being moved back to midfield and John Rodgers entering the match. John had an imediate impact winning a free kick on the edge of the box; Thomas McKeown’s shot was well saved. With the Port starting to gather momentum, Devlin Anderson saw a lot of the ball down the left and had the Kilpatrick defence run ragged; he deserved a goal for his efforts. Unfortunately it wasn’t his day, a few jinking runs ended with a tame shot. Kilpatrick added a fourth from a corner with two players impeding the Port’s keeper but the ref allowed the goal to stand.

Darren MacLeay then raced through on goal for the Port and had the Kilpatrick keeper making a late lunge on him. Credit to the player for staying on his feet but unfortunately the ball ran out of play and the ref only awarded a throw-in. As the game fizzled out, the Port finished the stronger and came close to grabbing a consolation goal on a few occasions. Referee’s man of the match: David Watt
