2004s Port Glasgow BC (Orange) 1 Palace Park 1

The Port took on Palace Park at Parklea. Before the match, the Port were dealt a blow when Darren Mcleay was ruled out with an ankle injury. The game started with both sides looking to get the ball down and play football and, within minutes, Gilmour broke up a Palace attack only to be tripped by the Palace player and land on his shoulder breaking his collar bone. Jamie will miss the next four to six weeks. The Port then got their breakthrough when the Palace keeper spilled a Declan Byrne effort and Scott Mckay showed good awareness to follow up and tap the ball home.

The first half belonged to the Port who defended well and managed to create a few more opportunities. The second half started with the Port missing a couple of chances to put the game to bed with shots going wide. Palace looked the stronger side for most of the second half and the Port rode their luck a bit with defenders Watt and S. Gault having to be on their toes to put a stop to any attacks. Luckily for the Port, anything that got by their defence was stopped by keeper Hayden O’Neill who had a terrific day and did really well with a few one-on-ones to keep the Port’s noses in front.

Up the other end, Marc Lewis, Peter Ingram and Callum Brown had chances to settle it in the final few minutes, however there was heart-break for the Port when they couldn’t clear the ball and it was cut back for the Palace player to score. It ended 1-1 — the Port had been a minute away from a terrific result that would’ve put them top of the league. As it stands now the Port will need to rely on a couple of teams dropping points to have any chance of winning the league.

The whole team gave it everything in a cracking game of football. Everyone at Port Glasgow BC wishes Jamie Gilmour a speedy recovery. Man of the match was Declan Byrne. Goal-scorer Scott Mckay, who played out of position, had his best game in the Port’s colours.

The team thank sponsors Marcus Humphrey House, SGN and Taurus Opts.

2003s Port Glasgow 1 West End Soccer Glasgow 2

Port returned to League action with a home game against West End Soccer Glasgow at Parklea. West End were first to threaten but the Port defence soaked up their early pressure. Port were awarded a free kick 30 yards out after ten minutes and Ryan O’Connor saw his effort go narrowly wide of the target. Lewis Leitch then beat their left back and passed a good ball to Ciaran McLees whose shot went just past the post. Port continued to press and good play from Lee Finlay led to Josh Miller having a shot which forced their keeper into a save. Luke Cunningham then produced a great save when he turned a low shot past the post for a corner.

After 25 minutes, Port took the lead when Ciaran McLees passed to Lewis Leitch who made no mistake scoring with a fine finish over the keeper. Port couldn’t get a second goal before half-time despite having most of the possession. The second half saw West End start the stronger of the teams and they equalised after only two minutes when they scored from 25 yards following a poor defensive clearance. Five minutes later and the Port lost another goal when a low finish gave Luke Cunningham no chance.

Port then dominated the remainder of the game but couldn’t get the goal their play deserved with some bad luck and desperate defending by West End stopping the Port getting a equaliser.
