THERE was disappointment for Port Glasgow Boys’ Club’s 2004 teams in the Scottish Cup.

Port Glasgow BC (Black) v Erskine

The Port entertained tier one side Erskine at Parklea on Saturday in the first round of the Scottish Cup. Unlike previous weeks the boys struggled to really make any inroads in the game and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time.

Port stated the better in the second half but were hit with the sucker punch when a long ball out of defence from Erskine caught the Port out and the attacker made it 4-0. Heads were down and the boys struggled to get going and lost a further two goals.

This was a disappointing performance and one that they will be keen to get out of their system when they travel to play Giffnock Thistle this weekend.

Thistle Weir 3 v 2 Port Glasgow BC (Orange)(after extra time)

The Port started and finished their Scottish Cup adventure with a trip to Huntershill hub in Bishopbriggs. In the first half, the Port dominated possession and had several chances to take the lead, but a combination of poor finishing and bad decision-making cost the Port early on. Sean McGhee eventually opened the scoring for the Port before Thistle hit back with a goal that looked offside.

The Thistle keeper was dealing with everything the Port threw at him, saving shot after shot. With the second half under way, Thistle, who created very little, stunned the Port with a goal to go 2-1 up. The Port threw everything they had at Thistle and were rewarded with an equaliser through Callum Brown with 10 minutes left.

The game went to extra time and Thistle Weir, with their first chance, put a ball through the middle for a one-on-one with the keeper. O’Neill did with the first effort but had no chance with the rebound. The Port again threw everything they could at Thistle but their keeper did well to keep the Port out. Thistle Weir were well organised and difficult to break down with every man back behind the ball.

The team thank sponsors Marcus Humphrey House, SGN and Taurus Ops.
