Blackthorn Rovers 20-0 Broomhill Utd

BLACKTHORN opened their Greenock and District Welfare League campaign with an overwhelming victory, smashing the club’s record scoreline in the process.

Thorn started brightly and opened the scoring in the second minute through Aaron Cameron before Smith and another from Cameron provided an early 3-0 lead after only 10 minutes. Further goals from Hunter, McCabe, McNeil and three more from Cameron made it 9-0 at half-time.

Within a minute of the re-start, McCurdy made it t10 and James Jordan added another before Cameron notched his sixth of the day and McCabe and McCurdy each netted their second. Midway thorugh the half, Andy Brunton headed home his first goal for the club and Gordon McNeil converted his second of the match.

Two more goals from James Jordan gave him a hat-trick and club captain Graeme Barnes came off the bench in an unfamiliar striking role to get himself on the scoresheet. Full-back McNeil completed his own hat-trick in the closing minutes to round off the scoring after a remarkable day in front of goal for the Blue Brazil.

Thorn team-line: Koekenbier; McNeil, Harkin (McDermid), Wiggins, Brunton; Hunter, Jordan, Smith (Fry), McCurdy (McAllister); McCabe (Mullen), Cameron (Barnes).

This Sunday Blackthorn face Newark in a league fixture with a 2pm kick-off at Battery Park. All players are to report for 1.20pm.
