26 September, 2019 | Local

MATCH report from Port Glasgow Juniors Community Sports Club 2003s.

Juniors were at home against Stamperland at Parklea on grass. Stamperland kicked off, with the Juniors playing up the slope and against a slight wind.

The ball went all the way through to Jack W in goal and he launched a long clearance down the middle. Innes headed it on and Connor’s darting run split the defence and he slammed the ball past the keeper with just 24 seconds on the clock.

The game was very stop-start and the referee was not letting it flow. On 10 minute, Juniors won a corner on the left. The ball was drilled in low to the box and somehow finished up in the net.

It was still not free-flowing from the Juniors but there were some good passages of play. On 15 minutes, Connor drove into the box before centring to find Innes who spun and finished for the third goal.

Within a minute, Jack F drove in off the left flank searching for enough space to craft an opening. He found it 25 yards out slamming the ball into the top corner with his drive. It was 4-0 to the Juniors with less than 20 minutes gone.

The Juniors had a couple of one-on-ones with the keeper but he did well to avoid conceding any more before the break. The coaches made a couple of changes to freshen things up and it was not long before the next goal.

Morgan struck from distance with a daisy-cutter that fooled everyone — the keeper could only watch as the ball found the bottom corner.

Eight minutes later, Jack F picked up the ball just inside Stamperland’s half and pinged another long-range effort but this time a defender blocked it. The ball fell to Seb who controlled the loose ball before skipping past his marker and slamming in the team’s sixth goal.

Things settled for a while and the Stamperland keeper made a couple of good saves. Stamperland pulled a couple of goals back, including one from a penalty.

Juniors had a late effort which glanced off the top of the bar. It finished Juniors 6 v 2 Stamperland, to make it five wins out of five league games for the 2003s.

The team thank sponsors Ian IML Garden Tidy, Brian Swift School of Motoring and JW Grants
