Blackthorn Rovers 6-0 Lithgows

In the opening group game of the Ridgedoc Cup, Blackthorn enjoyed a fine victory against recent GM Cup winners Lithgows in a physical encounter at Battery Park.

Thorn started brightly and, with only eight minutes on the clock, Jamie McCabe opened the scoring with an early penalty after James Jordan had been felled in the box.

Not content with a single-goal lead, Blackthorn continued to push and were rewarded when Aaron Cameron latched on to McCabe’s through-ball to net his eighth of the season.

Shortly after, Strachan was adjudged to have handled a bouncing ball in the box and once again McCabe slotted the ball home for his second and Thorn’s third.

After the break, Blackthorn continued to enjoy the majority of the ball and hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions before McCabe secured his hat-trick from close range to cap a fine individual performance.

Centre-back Wiggins was next to get on the score-sheet having ventured forward for a free kick before super-sub Steven Mullen came off the bench to score for the second straight week.

Overall this was a strong performance by the Blue Brazil who, in addition to impressing in an attacking sense, also kept a clean sheet for the third game running.

Team-line: Koekenbier; McNeil, Harkin (McDermid), Wiggins, Brunton; Hunter, Jordan, Smith (Fry), Bradley (McCurdy); McCabe (Mullen), Cameron.

This Sunday Blackthorn return to league action with a 2pm kick-off at Battery Park versus Belleaire. All players are to report for 1.20pm.

Blackthorn thank kit sponsor Koekibar (www.Koekibar.com) for continued support.
