Blackthorn 6-0 OC Utd

BLACKTHORN cemented their place atop the Greenock and District Welfare League (GDWL) with another good win against an OC side who have made a good start to the season themselves.

Goals from Andy Brunton, James Jordan and James Hunter gave ‘Thorn a 3-0 half-time lead before Glenn Bradley, Adam McGraw and Aaron Cameron added second half goals for a comfortable win.

Keeper Les Koekenbier made his return from injury and helped the Blue Brazil to a ninth straight clean sheet in GDWL league and cup fixtures.

The result gives ‘Thorn a maximum 21 points from seven games so far this season, nine points clear of Newark in second place.

Blackthorn line-up: Koekenbier; McNeil (Harkin), McDermid, Wiggins, Brunton; Hunter, Jordan, McCurdy (Bradley), Fry (McGraw); Smith (Mullen), Cameron (Barnes).

This Sunday, ‘Thorn face Chaplins in the Ridgedoc Cup final, at Battery Park with a 2pm kick-off. A large support is expected for what should be an entertaining match.

Blackthorn thank kit sponsor Koekibar (www.Koekibar.com) for continued support.
