Inverclyde Now Logo FESTIVE Fun At Christmas Day Parkrun

NEARLY 100 people ran, jogged and walked the five-kilometre course Greenock parkrun course on Christmas Day, many of them in festive fancy dress. Two first-timers were the first male and female runners over the line.

As well as those in Santa costumes and elves outfits, the event welcomed the Zooming Zebra for his annual Greenock parkrun appearance. Zooming Zebra is looked after and trained by Inverclyde Athletic Club, and this year he ran a new personal best (PB) time of 21.04.

Other runners celebrating improved times were teenager Cameron Watson, down from 16.29 to 16.18; Andrew White, 16.45 to 16.39; Ross Brown, going under 18 minutes to 17.18; David Watt, who was 20 seconds faster; Luke Loehndorf who was nearly three minutes quicker; and Mathew Crawford.

Twelve people were at Greenock parkrun for the first time, including Stephen Trainer who was first male to finish (15.55), and teenager Zoe Renfrew who was first female over the line (20.20).

The Esplanade event attracted visitors from numerous places, the furthest away being Germany with others from London, Leicester, Northamptonshire and Elgin.
