WITH the time trial season well under way, local GTR-Return To Life rider Matt Hennon was off south of the border to the popular 10-mile course at the village of Levens in an attempt to shave more off his personal best time of 20:39.

The Levens course is just south of Kendal in the Lake District and is known to be a fast course, popular with riders from all over the UK. Races are held there each weekend in June, and Matt raced on both 8 and 16 June.

The wind direction on 8 June meant there was a gusting headwind on the long 5.7 mile outward leg with a sheltered tailwind for the return leg to the finish. Matt stopped the clock at 21:03, not quite the result he had hoped for.

Conditions were very similar the next weekend but slightly warmer and Matt rode strongly, crossing the line in 20:45.

Although not quite getting a personal best, Matt was comfortably in the top 15 in a very fast field. Matt’s next outing is the UK Emergency Services National Time Trial Championships taking place near Nottingham on the 20 and 21 June where he’ll be racing in both the 10 and 25-mile events.

Patricia Baird is gradually moving up the race distances and achieved a new personal best at the Scottish Cycling National 25-mile Championship run by Dundee Thistle Cycle Club at Forfar.

Meanwhile Patricia took first place at the Alistair Speed Memorial 50-mile time trial in Fife. This event was run by Fife Cycling Association and travels a rolling route from Freuchie to Milnathort and back with some scenic loops around the Fife countryside.
