Inverclyde Now Logo CRICKET — Wet Weather Wins As Greenock’s Season Ends With Cancellation

26 August, 2019 | Local

GREENOCK’S Premier Division programme of fixtures ended unsatisfactorily on Saturday afternoon when umpires ruled out any play at Glenpark as the ground was deemed unfit because of the effects of incessant rainfall during the week.

The bowlers’ run up and front foot landing area on the crease at the Bedford Street end of the ground were the main problem areas. Although the rest of the ground had recovered sufficiently from the week’s rainfall, the game could not go ahead.

This was the fourth match to be lost to the effects of wet weather in the last five weeks of the season for Greenock.

Fortunately, the cancellation had no bearing on the league placings as Greenock were safe in eighth position and so will retain their place in the Premier Division for 2020.
