INVERCLYDE Cricket Club held its annual dinner with a good turnout of current and former players.

The toast to the club was given by former player Bernie Mitchell who commented on the big reduction in the number of clubs in the area over the years and how impressed he was with Inverclyde’s set-up and its growing junior section.

The club’s Growing Cricket in Inverclyde initiative, started three years ago, is now bearing fruit with the experienced committee continuing in its efforts to take the sport to the local community.

Team manager Scott Campbell won the Member of the Year Trophy, Cammy Gunn was Batsman of the Year, Tom Watson was Bowler of the Year and Paul Singh was Fielder of the Year.

Outgoing captain Dave Cooke was thanked for his five years of leadership on the field; he hands over to new captain David Thomson. The club thank PDC Copyprint Greenock for sponsoring this year’s awards.

Inverclyde’s pre-season training continues this weekend, with senior sessions taking place from 10am to noon on Sundays at the training facility at St Columba’s High School, Gourock.

Junior coaching sessions also take place at St Columba’s, from 10am to noon on Saturdays, and these are open to anyone up to age 14, including those who have already sampled cricket, plus any other keen youngster.

All cricket equipment for juniors and seniors is provided by the club, and training sessions and coaching are provided free of charge.
