Inverclyde Now Logo CRICKET — Inverclyde Hoping To Get Season Underway

3 May, 2018 | Local

AFTER last weekend’s disappointment of the opening league fixture falling to the weather, with Auldhouse in Glasgow surprisingly being declared unplayable by the opposition, Inverclyde hope to get their league campaign underway on Saturday when they meet Bute at Gourock Park.

Dave Cooke’s side will be looking for early revenge for the defeat away to Bute in a pre-season friendly, and the captain will be expecting his players to improve on that initial performance.

Inverclyde have the option of using their artificial wicket if required. It has been approved by the Western District Cricket Union and was put to good use last season, allowing two games to go ahead. It has been an important investment by the club in an effort to play as much cricket as possible in an area which has been badly affected by wet summers in recent years.

Despite several players being unavailable, Inverclyde field a strong side, and the following players are asked to report by 12.30 for a 1.00pm start: Dave Cooke, David Bruce, Ross Blair, Stuart Callison, Chris Dick, Gareth James, Tom McDade, Paul Singh, David Thomson, Craig Watson, Tom Watson

Outdoor practices start next Thursday at Gourock Park from 6.30pm and will continue at the same time through the season.
