Inverclyde Now Logo CRICKET — Disappointment For Inverclyde Against Kingholm

Inverclyde 118 all out (0 pts)

Kingholm 119 for 2 (10 pts)

AFTER last week’s win over Bute, which unfortunately came via a concession from the Rothesay side, Inverclyde were well beaten away to Dumfries side Kingholm on Saturday.

Inverclyde batted first and Dave Cooke and Gareth Smith were building a good start until Smith was bowled at 20 for 1 after seven overs.

Captain David Thomson joined Cooke in what was to be Inverclyde’s best spell of the match as they took the score to 89, with the game under control, when Kingholm’s third change-bowler Moore completely altered the course of play.

Firstly he bowled Cooke for 31 and then Thomson was bowled for 25. Moore then ran through the lower order, finishing with five wickets, with Dave Mudie offering some resistance on nine not-out when the innings closed in the 37th over at 118 all out.

A good start was required to defend this low total but it was the Dumfries side who opened well, attacking the Inverclyde bowling attack.

First-change Chris Dick bowled well, removing Dallas for 35, and then picked up his second wicket as Cooke held a good catch at mid-on to dismiss Bowie. Dick was unlucky not to pick up more wickets with some tough chances in the field missed.

However opener Foster could not be dislodged and he finished on 50 not out to comfortably win the game for Kingholm in the 20th over.

Practices for juniors and seniors continue on Tuesday evenings at Gourock Park.
