Inverclyde 116 all out (0 pts)

Galloway 2nd X1 117 for 2 (10 pts)

INVERCLYDE lost out to an experienced Galloway 2nd XI by eight wickets at Gatehouse of Fleet.

The home side won the toss and Inverclyde were invited to bat on the very dry wicket, and made a good start until Scott Campbell fell to a return catch to the bowler when Lamb’s slower ball in the fifth over checked on the wicket.

Dave Mudie and Douglas Pilkington then had a solid second-wicket partnership until Mudie was trapped leg before at 76 for 2 in the 23rd over. Stuart Callison played confidently but was bowled by Bradley when the ball stayed low on the now dusty wicket.

Pilkington was bowled for 38 in similar fashion by Langley with the total on 99 for 4. Captain Gareth James suffered the same fate as Campbell earlier when he was caught and bowled by Davidson. David Bruce, Ross Blair, Mark Blair and Jim Murphy all added some late runs, but the innings closed in the 38th over when Murphy was bowled by Davidson with the total on a disappointing 116 all out.

In reply, Inverclyde’s opening bowlers James and Bruce had good opening spells, and had an early breakthrough when James had a successful leg before appeal to dismiss Smith at 10 for 1.

However Lamb and Clark batted well, surviving some difficult chances as they attacked the bowling until Mudie had Clark well caught at mid-wicket by Murphy in the 16th over.

It was too little, too late for the visitors, Lamb remaining undefeated on 55 as the home side comfortably achieved the victory for the loss of just two wickets.

Practices continue for Inverclyde’s juniors and seniors throughout the season on Tuesdays at 6pm at Gourock Park.
