Inverclyde Now Logo CENTURY Celebration For David At Greenock Parkrun

31 July, 2018 | Local

WEMYSS Bay resident David Black celebrated completing his 100th parkrun as 139 people took part in the weekly five-kilometre event at Greenock.

David started parkrun in January 2015 and has become a regular face at the Greenock event along with his wife Sharon, completing 99 runs locally (and one at neighbouring Linwood).

In the past 2½ years David has dropped his parkrun time by 10 minutes and dropped his weight by an impressive 3½ stone. He has recently joined a local running club.

Twenty-seven of the runners who took part on Saturday were completing Greenock parkrun for the first time.

Among them were Jason Ferrier and John Thow, Dundee United supporters who are attempting to complete every parkrun in Scotland in their club’s football colours.

Thirteen runners managed to improve on their previous best times — Andrew McGlynn, Jill Aikman, Carol Moir, Gordon McKechnie, Louise Burden, Kelly Dowds, Carlyn Macleay, David Wallace, Kelly McKenna, Gillian Neill Robertson, Julie Percival, Jennifer Buchan and Alison Monteith.
