GREENOCK hosted an American Football flag tournament for under-12s.

The first annual Scots Bowl was held at Fort Matilda Playing Fields in Greenock.

It was attended by Inverclyde Mighty Ducks, Carnegie Smurfs and Chorley Buccaneers, who brought their A and B squads — The Blackbeards and the Redbeards. Each team played each other twice.

The Mighty Ducks boasted a squad of 12 boys and girls and they all played well, driving the ball up the field, scoring touchdowns and extra points as well as making tackles and keeping the other teams’ offence at bay for much of the day.

The Ducks were decked out in their new jerseys, courtesy of GKF Print Studio, each with their own chosen number and names on the back. Dylan Burns was named as MVP (most valuable player) for the Ducks.

Dylan and Conal Crawley also won the national one-handed catch competition, run by the UK Dukes, each with five in a row. The boys gained the opportunity to showcase their skills to a live audience on camera.

Ducks general manager Kevin McAdam said: “The kids had a great day overall at their first ever American Football tournament. “They put on a great showing, completing some great plays on both sides of the ball and pushing on right through to the end of the last game.

“We are looking forward to continuing to teach them and have even more fun at the next one. Thanks to Carnegie and Chorley for making the journey to Inverclyde.”

Inverclyde Mighty Ducks hold sessions for two to 12-year-olds every Sunday, 11.20am at Fort Matilda Playing Fields.

Inverclyde Phoenix hold sessions for 12 to 18-year-olds at the same place and time.

Clyde Comets, senior non-contact team, and Inverclyde Goliaths, senior contact team, both train every Thursday at Fort Matilda, 6.30pm and 7.30pm respectively.
