DEMOLITION Planned For Old BT Site In Greenock

PLANS to demolish the former BT telephone  engineering centre in Regent Street, Greenock have been lodged with Inverclyde Council.

Officials are being asked to approve demolition of the main building plus other structures including vehicle workshops, garages, storage huts, outbuildings and a vehicle washing facility.

The work also includes removal of underground fuel tanks and clearing vegetation.

The proposals are pending consideration by council building standards staff.

The large site beside Greenock Central railway station has been unused for many years.

Inverclyde's current Local Development Plan identifies the land as suitable for a range of uses including education, business, industry, storage and distribution, housing and residential institutions.

No planning application has so far been listed for the site.
