PORT Glasgow Store Donate To Calum's Cabin Charity

A HOLIDAY retreat for children suffering from cancer is being helped to create priceless memories for its visitors, thanks to a donation from the Tesco store in Port Glasgow.

Calum's Cabin on the Isle of Bute was built in memory of 12-year-old Rothesay boy Calum Speirs, who lost his fight for life in 2007 little more than a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The holiday retreat was Calum’s idea, knowing he and his family lived in a beautiful part of the world and that it would be great to have children suffering from cancer to visit and enjoy themselves with their families. It now includes two properties, the original Calum's Cabin and Calum's Cabin Cottage.

Calum’s mum and dad Caroline and Duncan visited the Tesco store to receive a cheque for £1,000 to help pay for families to visit the island.

Kerris Jones, customer experience manager at Tesco Extra, Port Glasgow, said: “Whilst we are dedicated and focused on serving our customers and enhancing their shopping experience in our stores, we are also keen to engage with and help to support our local community.

“Calum was such a remarkable young man and his legacy is helping children suffering from cancer and their families to spend quality time together and make irreplaceable memories."

Calum’s mum Caroline said: “To us and to all our visiting families this donation from Tesco and all the support we receive means the world to us and it means that we can help families in their hour of need.”
