ARDGOWAN Hospice Thanks Its Volunteers With A Christmas Treat

ARDGOWAN Hospice volunteers were treated to a special Christmas afternoon tea prepared and served by staff in fancy dress.

The volunteers got the star treatment as a thank-you for their hard work and dedication to the hospice all year.

Keith McKellar, chair of the hospice board of trustees, said: “Volunteers play a vital role in the running of hospice services. Last year 313 people gave up their time, skills and energy to volunteer. This amounted to a total of 69,173 hours.

"The hospice volunteer drivers take patients to hospital for vital treatment and appointments for free. They drove more than 70,000 miles last year”.

The volunteers drank tea and coffee and tucked into sandwiches, sausage rolls and a range of cakes and mince pies thanks to generous donations from Greggs, Morrisons, Tesco and Costa Coffee.

Each volunteer received a hand-made favour from the management team at the hospice and a Christmas present in the raffle.

The afternoon went with a festive-swing as pupils from St Columba’s Junior School, Kilmacolm, entertained everyone with carols.

Volunteer roles at the hospice are varied and suit all ages and skills. The hospice needs more volunteers and posts include assisting in charity shops, providing administrative support, cooking and serving food and supporting fund-raising events.
