INVERCLYDE Golf Holds Champion of Champions Contests

Paul Dorrian of Greenock Golf Club was crowned Club Champion of Champions

INVERCLYDE Golf Champion of Champions events were held over the summer, at Gourock Golf Club.

The competitions featured the 2023 lady, gent, junior and veteran champions from the golf clubs in the Inverclyde Golf association: Gourock, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Whinhill.

The final of the ladies’ event was contested between Emma Boyd of Gourock Golf Club and Dorothy Fisher of Greenock Golf Club.

It was evenly balanced and was all square after five holes. By the turn, Emma was three up, and despite Dorothy getting the game back to two holes down at the 13th, Emma went on to win the game at the 16th, 4&2.

Paul Dorrian of Greenock Golf Club was crowned Club Champion of Champions for a third year running, defeating Steven Higgins of Gourock Golf Club in the final by the score of 2&1. Ryan Gallagher of Port Glasgow Golf Club and John Donald of Whinhill Golf Club were the other competitors.

Callum Watters, representing both Gourock and Greenock Golf Clubs, was crowned Junior Champion of Champions.

The veterans’ title is decided by an 18-hole strokeplay round (with the best nett score being declared the winner). It was won by Gerry Donnachie of Greenock Golf Club, who won by four shots from Myles Gallacher of Whinhill Golf Club with Hugh McGivern of Port Glasgow Golf Club and Robert McGregor of Gourock Golf Club in third and fourth place respectively.

Inverclyde Golf thank Gourock Golf Club for hosting, with the course presented in excellent condition for the competitors.
