GREENOCK Cricket Club Holds Awards Night

THE achievements of players were recognised at Greenock Cricket Club’s end-of-season awards night.

The Players’ 1st XI Player of the Year award was won by Chirag Pandher, who had a fine season. He scored 175 runs in league and cup matches and also took a total of 17 wickets.

The Players’ 2nd XI Player of the Year award was won by Inam Khan, who had a splendid season playing for both 1st XI and 2nd XI. As a fine all-rounder, Inam amassed more than 370 runs and took 22 wickets.

Connor Nowlan and Angus Tolhurst, the club’s overseas amateurs from Brisbane, Australia were given awards for their excellent all-round form for the 1st XI.

Connor scored 672 runs in all matches, including a century in a pre-season friendly against Renfrew. He also took a 37 wickets, with best match figures of five wickets for 12 runs against Hillhead in a league match in early July.

Angus scored 705 runs in all matches and had centuries against Hillhead and Aberdeenshire. Angus also took a total of 36 wickets, with his best match figures of five wickets for 10 runs against Kilmarnock in a league match in early August.

The final award of the evening — Club Player of the Year 2024 — went to Emily Norris. Emily gained the award for her work as Junior Cricket Convener and for her excellent playing contribution throughout the season in the 2nd XI. Emily also plays for the West of Scotland ladies’ team.

Greenock Cricket Club thank Alex Jasper, John Riggins, Sudeep Chaudhary, the Manzil Tandoori and club sponsor for 2024, Cleaning Supplies 4U. for providing support for the awards evening, along with Sam Sanghera, Emily Norris, Emma Norris, Vishal Yadav, Aryan Sanghera, Usman Mansoor, Shailesh Prabhu, Eddie Ahmad, Peter Hempsey, Peter Roberston, Mamie Clisham and guest speakers Robbie Henderson and John McDougall, who all helped with the organisation of the event.
