
GREENOCK play their final warm-up matches at Glenpark this weekend before the league season begins in earnest.
On Saturday, newly promoted Helensburgh are the opposition. Leading the side from across the Clyde will be former Greenock opening bowler Gregor Chambers.
The teams will meet each other later in the summer as Helensburgh had a fine season in 2024 gaining promotion from Western Premiership Three into Premiership Two. The first of the league encounters will come towards the end of June at Glenpark with the return match in Helensburgh for the second last match of the league programme coming at the end of August.
On Saturday, Greenock will field a strong 1st IX with both of the club’s overseas amateurs making their first appearance at Glenpark after arriving from Brisbane on Thursday afternoon.
They are Calum Henry, a wicketkeeper and opening batsman, and Will Jenkins, a pace bowler and middle-order bat. They have been brought to the club through the assistance of former club professional Peter Clifford who lives and coaches in the Brisbane area of Australia.

On Sunday, regular pre-season visitors Hillhead make the journey to Glenpark from the West End of Glasgow. The Hughenden team had a miserable season in 2024 which ended in relegation to the Western Premiership Three. But they will be keen to make a positive start to the 2025 season and be challenging in their league programme with the aim of returning once again to the Premiership Two.
