The 41-year-old victim suffered a suspected fractured jaw in the attack in Nicolson Street near Newton Street around 11.25am yesterday (Thursday).

Nicolson Street near Newton Street

She was walking past three women, one of whom she knew, when there was an exchange of words and one of the other women punched her in the face.

The victim was then kicked in the face when she leaned down to pick up something she had dropped.

The attacker was of heavy build with dyed blonde, shoulder-length hair.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said officers are treating the incident as a serious assault and urged anyone who saw what happened — or motorists whose dash-cam systems may have captured the attack on film — to call police on 101.
