70th Scouts Take On Global Issues

Scouts from the 70th troop spent the last couple of weeks working towards the Global Issues activity badge.

For Fair Trade Fortnight, they found out about banana farming, football manufacturing and the process of making chocolate and the differences in quality and cost, enjoying a tasting session of fair trade chocolate and bananas.

In week two, the Scouts learned all about the partnership between Rotary Club and Shelterbox and how the disaster relief charity helps those in need.

The troop thank Lorraine Gray for her interesting talk explaining the development of the Shelterboxes and how climate and local beliefs can add extra challenges.

The troop presented money for a toolbox kit which includes tools and a tarpaulin to quickly repair and rebuild shelters in an area of need. T

They also thank Danny Chundoo, members of Greenock Rotary Club and Richard Horrell of Helensburgh Rotary Club for their input and assistance.

85th Wemyss Bay Cubs Work Hard For Badge

The 85th Wemyss Bay Cubs worked hard over the past three weeks to earn their DIY Activity badge with the help of local businessman Jim Lever. Jim gave up his time to show the safe handling and use of tools.

Then the Cubs, working in groups and on their own, built and varnished nesting boxes and butterfly houses which it’s hoped will be put up at Everton Scout Camp. This would not only benefit the wildlife but would enable the Cubs to admire their handiwork when they attend future camps.
