LANGBANK Primary School got a helping hand from Tesco’s Port Glasgow store which donated traditional Scottish produce for its Burns celebrations.

Pupils marked the annual tribute to the life, works and spirit of poet Robert Burns by taking part in an afternoon celebration. Children recited poems and competitions took place for solo piano playing and traditional Scottish dancing.

Staff from Tesco attended the event for which they donated and presented prizes of stationery sets and £10 Tesco gift cards. They also helped to serve up a special lunch of Scottish treats which included haggis, Irn Bru, shortbread and oatcakes. The whole school then enjoyed a ceilidh to finish off the afternoon.

Tesco Port Glasgow store manager Russell Houston said: “We are grateful to Langbank Primary School for including us in their Burns celebrations and for making us all feel very welcome. The whole afternoon was fantastic and we had a wonderful time celebrating with them and are delighted to have been able to provide a traditional Scottish lunch for them to enjoy.”

Acting head teacher at Langbank, Simon Cundy, said: “It is always nice to be able to reward children who win school competitions with a prize or treat and the stationery sets and vouchers from Tesco were well received by the winners. The delicious lunch made the celebration even more special for them and we  thank Tesco for their support in this; the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the whole afternoon.”
