CVS Inverclyde has announced the programme for its third sector conference 2017, Our Place Our Future, taking place at the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on Wednesday 11 October.

Early bird discounted delegate tickets are available at £10 for those booking their place by Friday 29 September.

“The conference takes the name of the recent Inverclyde-wide community engagement project, Our Place Our Future, as we take the opportunity to feedback on the recent survey, which gathered the opinions of local residents across a wide range of themes,” said Ian Bruce, chief executive officer, CVS Inverclyde.

“We are currently working with Inverclyde Council and other agencies in the Inverclyde Alliance to help turn these views into a Local Outcome Improvement Plan -– the LOIP will be our strategy for what will be prioritised over the coming years.

“We look forward to another great line up of participants coupled with informative workshop sessions and the chance for delegates to network, as well as visit stalls run by a variety of organisations. We encourage delegates to ensure their place at Our Place Our Future by booking early and benefiting from the discounted rate, which includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day.”

The Our Place Our Future conference programme starts at 9.15am with a panel debate hosted by Annie Gunner Logan, director of the Coalition of Care and Support Providers in Scotland (CCPS). Lining up to take questions from the delegates are Stephen McCabe, Leader, Inverclyde Council (and chair of Inverclyde Alliance); Kevin Scarlett, chief executive, River Clyde Homes; Allan Johnstone, chief executive, Voluntary Action Scotland; and Ian Bruce.

Workshops include sessions that delve further into the Our Place Our Future survey, and what it means to the third sector, by Inverclyde Council’s Corporate Policy and Partnership Manager, Miriam McKenna. Alison Johnston, Lead Policy Officer – Scotland for the Information Commissioner’s Office will be talking about what the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) mean to organisations and how to prepare for their introduction next spring.

There will be a taster session from the Trust Volunteering team on how to involve both younger and older volunteers, as well as looking at intergenerational opportunities. Participatory Budgeting, which is about giving people a bigger role in delivering services and ensuring public money is well spent, will be covered by industry expert and director of PB Partners, Jez Hall. A session on current funding opportunities will be delivered by CVS Inverclyde Strategic Investment Officer, Susan Robinson.

Registrations can be made online at the CVS Inverclyde Eventbrite page. Further information is available by contacting CVS Inverclyde on 01475 711733.

The CVS Inverclyde annual general meeting will also be held on the day at 1pm for members. It is free of charge for any member wanting to attend just the AGM.

The conference is being supported by the Oak Mall Shopping Centre and Love & Humphries.
