The Old Largs Road will be closed at its junction with Dunrod Road

INVERCLYDE’S countryside is again set to double for the scenery of the UK’s northernmost islands as filming for a new series of the BBC drama Shetland gets underway.

Scenes for the fourth season are due to be shot on the Old Largs Road beside Loch Thom in the moorland near Greenock over two days later this month.

The road scheduled to be closed for filming, between the turning for Dowries Farm and the junction with Dunrod Road, from 7pm on Thursday 30 March until midnight the next day.

The same area was used in 2012 for the first series. In April scenes for Shetland were also shot at the Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock and at neighbouring East India Harbour.

The drama stars Scots actor Douglas Henshall as detective Jimmy Perez and is based on the books by award-winning crime writer Ann Cleeves.
