DROP-In Library Event For People Who Are Blind Or Partially SightedPEOPLE who are blind or partially sighted are invited to go along to Greenock’s Central Library on Wednesday (12 June) from 10am till noon as part of the RNIB’s (Royal National Institute for the Blind) Make a Noise in Libraries initiative.
Councillor Jim Clocherty, Convener of Inverclyde Council’s Education and Communities Committee, said: “This event is all about showcasing the various resources we have to help make reading more accessible for people who are blind or partially sighted.
“We’ll also be showing people how to use the accessibility features on various mobile phones and other devices. These are functions which are specifically designed to help people who have a visual impairment.
“Anyone with a mobile phone or tablet should bring it with them so that our staff can unlock its accessibility secrets.”
The sensory team from the Centre for Independent Living will be attending as well to showcase their services.
A spokesperson for the RNIB, said: “Each year RNIB, Share the Vision and the Chartered Institute of Librarians (CILIP) celebrate Make a Noise in Libraries. The fortnight-long celebration encourages accessibility and inclusivity for all blind and partially sighted people in local libraries.”
During Make a Noise in Libraries fortnight, all Inverclyde libraries will have targeted displays of the accessible reading formats that they hold (talking books on CD, Playaway audio books, large print, e-books and e-audiobooks).
