DEAL Means Inverclyde Council’s Budget Will Be Cut By LessINVERCLYDE Council’s budget is set to be cut by around £2million less than expected after more money was agreed for local authorities under a deal between the SNP and the Green Party.
The Scottish budget decision at the Scottish Parliament today included £160million more for councils than the SNP had been proposing.
Inverclyde Council’s revenue grant from the Government was to be reduced by £6.8million. The reduction is now expected to be £4.8million.
Council Leader Councillor Stephen McCabe said: “The decision means Inverclyde Council’s budget will be reduced by less. While that of course is welcome, the reality is that our budget is still cut by more than £4.8million.
“Whatever way you look at it, this means cutting into service delivery or reserves to mitigate the effects of this. The council will now require to examine its position in light of this prior to the formal setting of a budget on 16 February.”
The council has made no decision on further increases to council tax above the multiplier changes for higher band properties previously announced by the Scottish Government.
