Inverclyde Now Logo COMMUNITY Urged To Back Poverty Project’s ‘Step Up Saturday’

5 August, 2017 | Noticeboard

AN Inverclyde project that helps local people living in crisis is holding a major drive for donations next weekend.

i58 — a social action ministry of Greenock Elim Church — runs several schemes including Inverclyde Foodbank, Inverclyde CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Debt Centre, and new projects to supply needy families with school uniforms and food for babies.

A community-wide collection day — Step Up Saturday — takes place on Saturday (12 August).

There will be collection points at every major supermarket and food retail store in the district where people can make donations — of cash and resources — to the foodbank, Inverclyde Uniform Bank, Inverclyde Baby Bank and the debt centre.

The i58 Project is looking for volunteers to help man collection points as well as urging people to visit their local stores and donate on the day.

Individuals can sign up to volunteer online, by emailing ian.esson@greenockelim.com or by calling 07506 530 568.
