SWIMMING -- Group From Inverclyde At Championships
A SMALL group of swimmers from Inverclyde Amateur Swimming Club took part in the West District group one Swimming Championships held at Cumbernauld over the weekend of 4/5 February.
In Saturday’s first event, Elidih Love swam in 100m Butterfly with an entry time of 01.25.50 and gained a personal best of 01.25.08. Elidih swam again in the 200m Medley and gained fourth place in the final with a time of 02.44.75, a very commendable time for her age group.
Luke Young, swimming in the 10 and over 100 SC metre Backstroke improved his entry time and achieved 01.19.25 as an accredited event. Ross McMath also swimming in the same event did likewise improving his entry time and now sports 01.13.61 and his accredited time placing sixth.
In 4 February, afternoon session Calvin Wardell, Andrew Jones, Calum Dyer, Euan Purdie and Euan McDougall put on fine performances in 100 SC Metre Breaststroke.
In the morning’s session of 5 February, Calvin Wardell swam in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly against stiff opposition, a great experience for his future competitions. Ross McMath did a brilliant swam in Heat Five and led all the way coming first in a new personal best time of 01.20.72.
In the afternoon session, Emily Matlock did herself proud, leading at the first 50 on 100 metres backstroke and producing a personal best performance of 01.22.16. Emily also swam to her credit in the 200 SC Medley.
Star swims of the afternoon came in the 200 SC Meter events, firstly to Andrew Jones who performed a beautiful backstroke tumble into breaststroke gaining pace and performance throughout. Secondly Euan Purdie and Ross McMath swam neck and neck in the same heat.
Head Coach Shirley Reford said all swimmers performed well at this level of meet and did their club proud.
